How to make a washcloth bunny and lollipop bunny

Better for you Easter basket ideas!

By Pamela -- Publisher Mom April 16, 2019

You may have seen the meme that goes around from time to time that says "I'm not a Pinterest mom, I'm more of an Amazon Prime mom". That is exactly who I am, but this Easter, I was feeling inspired to try some simple Easter crafts for my "better for you" Easter baskets this year! I tried to put together two easy to make crafts that any mom can whip together in a hurry (I'm not the only one wanting to take on a craft only hours before the final product is due, right?).

My first craft is a simple way to turn a cute lollipop into a bunny or a chick. My kids were incredibly impressed by these and I hope yours are too! My second craft is folding a washcloth into a bunny (or a chick!).

Materials:

  • White and yellow washcloth (or any color your kids would enjoy!)
  • Piper cleaners
  • Pom poms
  • Construction paper
  • Glue dots
  • Googly eyes
  • Zolli Pops

It was important to me that the crafts have materials that we can easily find around the house! If you can't find these exact colors or items around your house, feel free to improvise. I did find a kit in the Walmart craft section with pipe cleaners, pom poms, and googly eyes for about $5. I also wanted to be able to remove the eyes and pom poms from the washcloths, so I chose to use the roll on glue dots. They held great, but are going to be removable. You could use a glue gun, but that may be a more permanent option.

For the lollipop bunny and chick:

Since this is my "better for you" Easter basket filling, I decided to use Zolli Pops instead of regular lollipops. Zolli Pops were designed by a seven-year-old who wanted to design lollipops that were actually good for your teeth. Zolli Pops, along with the other fun treats they have available, are sugar-free, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, natural, kosher, and mom approved! I also love their Million Smiles Initiative where a portion of profits goes to reducing America's tooth decay epidemic.

The Zolli Pop wrappers are kind of big, so I wrapped the excess plastic around and used the glue dots to keep it out of the way so they suckers can be the star of the show! I then used a quarter-sized container to make a template for the faces and cut them out of the construction paper. I also made feet by cutting out a heart and using glue dots to stick it to the bottom of the Zolli Pop. Experiment with your facial expressions. The first one I made was "kinda creepy" according to my 7-year-old, but I think we landed on a cute bunny face that was easy to make with a couple of markers. I also took my pipe cleaners and formed ears and bows. I also glued a pom pom to the back side to cover up the excess wrapper and make a cute tail for our Easter animals.

This craft is very easy and you can let your imagination go wild with the design or keep it simple as I did!

For the washcloth animal:

The washcloth bunny was a lot of fun to make and I think the kiddos would love to help. It was like doing very forgiving origami.

1. Fold the washcloth in half like a triangle.

2. Starting with the corner, tightly roll the washcloth into a tube.

3. Fold the tube in half like a U.

4. Fold the U in half again.

5. Tie the head with a rubber band or piece of string. I made the side that the ears come out of the head and the bottom of the U be the behind.

6. Then decorate with googly eyes and pom poms

That's it! I plan on finishing the basket with some chalk, a small canvas to paint on, socks, a bath bomb making kit, and a chocolate bunny. It isn't a completely healthy Easter basket, but I wanted to make it "better for you" by incorporating some fun activities and limiting the candy to something sugar-free and a chocolate bunny.
